SSC has successfully supported the German radar satellite TerraSAR-X with communications services since the launch in June 15, 2007. As the commissioning phase is over, the contract has been extended and will include routine TT&C (Telemetry, Tracking & Command). The contracted time will mainly be used for testing inter-satellite links.
TerraSAR-X is a radar satellite that carries a high frequency X-band SAR sensor that can be operated in different modes (resolutions) and polarization. The objectives of the mission are to provide high-quality, multi-mode X-band SAR-data for scientific research and applications as well as to establish a commercial EO-market based on TerraSAR-X derived information products.
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) controls the satellite and is responsible for the scientific data it delivers. Commercial data from the satellite are marketed by Infoterra, a subsidiary of the European space company Astrium.
